Pentland Pet Services Monthly Newsletter – March 2010

Early in March I headed down to Birmingham to see “The Dog Whisperer” Cesar Millan.
He was in Glasgow the second week in March, but as that was Crufts week Yeva and Elsa were with us while their owners Tim and Janice were at the show. It was well worth the trip however and great to see the “Millan” man in the flesh, and a report of the event can be found elsewhere on the Site.

March also saw the lodging season get off on full swing with the return of Bliss for four days, closely followed by Yeva and Elsa as mentioned above.  Thankfully the weather stayed dry for all the dog lodger’s visits, which was much appreciated by all concerned.
As a first time lodger Milly made herself quite at home while her people were in Ireland, then it was off to Dalry to attend to the trio of cats: The Boy, Cookie and Banjo.  In between times Rufus popped in for day care, and Jake made a few more visits to help with his anxiety.  I am pleased to report that Jake is much less anxious these days, so it has been well worth the time an effort.

A new dog biscuit has exited the oven to be named “Milly Munchies”. These are made with Kidney, Wholemeal, Bran, Egg and Garlic.  As an enthusiastic taste tester Bliss decided that she really liked them, and would like to recommend them to her doggy pals.  Thank you Bliss.

I am presently trying to track down Igloo type moulded outdoor kennels in order to provide shade for any dogs who like to spend time in the garden during the day.  Last year I provided a paddling pool that was very successful and helped the dogs cool off during the hot spell, so together with a shaded area for a siesta we are aiming for a 5-Paw establishment this year.

As the gardening season approaches I would like to highlight potential dangers lurking in certain products.  The main one is a coconut based mulch that is sold as a ground cover to keep down weeds.  If eaten this will at best cause sickness and at worst can be fatal.  I do not want to create alarm, but at the same time cannot emphasise enough the need for caution in any garden product that can be accessed by pets.

The summer lodgers can look forward to some special days out, so with this in mind would be grateful for suggestions of favourite places.  Last year Blue and I had a great day on Brodick beach in Arran, so will certainly make that a regular.
Let me know your pet’s favourite place, and I’ll add that to the list.

Here’s to a pleasant Spring with many long walks!

                                      Anne
