Pentland Pet Services Monthly Newsletter - July

July proved not only to be the wettest of months but also the busiest for PPS, beginning with the arrival of Tootsie and Rufus.
Tootsie and Rufus are from separate families, but I made the decision to lodge them together as I felt they would be great company for each other.
Rufus took on the role of big brother and looked out for Tootsie, particularly when exploring new territory. Tootsie had not had the opportunity to be off leash regularly, but during her lodging was off leash every day, supervised by a vigilant Rufus.

I truly believe dogs learn from other dogs, and this certainly proved to be the case with this dynamic duo.
Sadly all good things come to an end and Tootsie and Rufus happily returned to their family/ packs, although I have been told that Rufus had been missing his “little sister” and was a bit down for a couple of days.

Bailey, a lovely Golden Retriever pup, commenced his six week training course in July and is proving to be an A1 student.
Bailey had a bit of a problem with getting into his car, but with the magic of Benjamin Brownies the car has become a much more interesting and less worrying place.
I am very grateful to Bailey’s owners for their dedication in working with Bailey to eradicate any issues at an early stage, and thereby ensuring Bailey will progress from puppyhood to adolescence to adulthood as a happy and balanced dog.

Pre-lodging visits are important as this is the time everyone has the opportunity to establish if the services offered by PPS are going to be suitable for owners, dog, and also Ross and myself.
Mika a cross Pug/ King Charles Spaniel, visited in July to suss us out prior to lodging later in the year. This is a cross I have not come across before so was very interested in meeting Mika.
She is very Pug like although slighter in build, and definitely has the Pug and King Charles attitude. Her owners advised that she is referred to as a "Pugleer" (apologies if the spelling is incorrect).

Yeva the Black Russian Terrier would like to pass on a tip she received from her vet.
Yeva had a bout of colitis (nasty condition) and received antibiotics, however the vet suggested a daily dose of “Yakult” as a preventative for dogs who are prone to this type of disorder.
Yeva really enjoys her “Yakult” and hopefully this will help in preventing a recurrance of the colitis. My Wolfhound, Cowal, suffered from this condition and at the time I would have been so grateful to know of any possible preventative to save her the discomfort she suffered.

Bliss was the next arrival for lodging, settling in without any problem as she is a regular lodger, so is very comfortable and makes herself quite at home. Bliss is the sister of Tasha one of my other regular lodgers and the pair of them meet up regularly for a run about.
As a bonus Tasha came to spend a day with Bliss, so the two dogs had a wonderful time together.

Bookings are being received thick and fast for 2011 so do please let me have any dates as soon as possible.
There is still availability from March to June next year but nothing available (apart from the odd days) from July onwards.

Tasha and Bliss were assigned new roles this month as photographic models for John McGuigan. As is evidenced by the following shots you will see that they did a sterling job, and assisted John in expanding his skills in Pet Photography.
If anyone is interested in more information I would be delighted to provide contact details, and would point out that John's pictures featured here are only 'Sample Images' and reproduced at low resolution.

After a very busy month Ross and I headed to Pitlochry for a weekends break and a chance to see Wolfstone in concert at the Festival Theatre. The concert was wonderful and Ross, in his other capacity as Freelance Writer and Music Reviewer, interviewed some of the band members for his FabricationsHQ Website.

The icing on the cake however was the discovery of 'Ellangowan,' our B & B accommodation for the duration of our stay. We were made very welcome by Mairi and Sean in their beautiful house, and will definitely be making return trips.

So, duly refreshed, we are back, and preparing for our next lodgers and trainees.
Have a good August, and keep those tails wagging!

                                      Anne
