Pentland Pet Services Monthly Newsletter – April 2010

April certainly was a quick month, and fairly eventful by all accounts, particularly for Rufus my little King Charles Spaniel lodger.  He ended up with a massive sheep tick on his tail that caused him a few problems, poor wee guy.  Of course from here on through the summer months is the time for ticks so if you haven’t already got one (or two) I would suggest purchasing a tick remover to have on hand, in case you find one of the blighters on your dog.

Rowan the Black Lab arrived for a few days lodging in April as usual bringing with her  'Humpy Hippo', her favourite soft toy.  Yep. What you are now imagining is pretty accurate.  Rowan usually waits for an audience before taking centre stage with Humpy Hippo...

Jake is now happy to see me on our regular pre lodging visits. However, I decided that it would be better for Jake to remain in his familiar surroundings while his people are away.  That being the case I will move in with him giving me the opportunity to work first hand on his trust and anxiety issues.

I was delighted to meet Miniature Schnauzers Ozzy and Mack in April.  Both are lovely dogs and devoted to their owner, however Ozzy is very vocal en route to the park to the consternation of his owner.  Ozzy and I went for a fact finding walk together that proved very successful so with a few tips on how to lead “the walk” a much more enjoyable and quiet time is in prospect.

With the arrival of spring many people are now busy in their gardens and in and out of sheds.  This is a time when many curious cats find themselves inadvertently locked in having wandered inside a shed and settled down for a snooze unbeknown to the industrious gardener.  It is worth having a check before locking up or if you see a sign in your area for a lost cat have a look in your shed.

I often receive enquiries for dog walking which I am unable to accept. However, if you know of anyone who may be interested in the occasional walk with a nice dog, please get in touch.

During April I managed a couple of visits to the wonderful Glenfoyble Deerhounds.  The pups CubbieRoo and Ailsa are adorable.  Ailsa now attends ringcraft classes and is doing really well, so CubbieRoo has a hard act to follow.

                                      Enjoy your walks!
